Orthodontist vs. Dentist: What’s the Difference?
While a dentist specializes in treating and preventing tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral health issues, an orthodontist focuses on correcting teeth and jaw misalignments.
A qualified orthodontist will have studied an additional 24 to 36 months in an accredited program to provide specialty services. This gives them an in-depth understanding of teeth movement, facial structure, dental development, and what approach to take to straighten teeth.
An orthodontist can treat dental alignment problems like:
- Overcrowding
- Overlapping teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Crooked teeth
- Overbite
- Underbite
- Crossbite
- Open bite
- Misaligned jaw
What Orthodontic Treatments Do We Offer?
Absolute Dental provides comprehensive orthodontic care with board-certified orthodontists who can treat mild to severe alignment issues and malocclusions. The types of treatment available from our team include:
Metal Braces
Metal braces are a tried-and-true orthodontic treatment option that uses a series of metal brackets and an archwire to pull teeth into alignment. These affordable dental braces are ideal for younger patients, people with more serious misalignments, or anyone seeking a more balanced and even smile.
Ceramic Braces
While similar to metal braces, ceramic or clear braces use tooth-colored ceramic brackets rather than metal ones. These blend in more easily with your smile, offering a less noticeable treatment option.
Clear Aligners
Clear aligners, also called invisible braces, do not use metal or ceramic at all. Instead, patients wear a series of plastic alignment trays over their teeth to straighten the smile over several weeks or months. Because these aligners are virtually invisible, many patients prefer this option for discreet orthodontic treatment.
Invisalign
Our orthodontists are proud to offer the Invisalign system to patients who want stunning results without bulky brackets or wires. With Invisalign, we use cutting-edge technology to map out your treatment and reach your smile goals without any metal in the mouth.
Retainers
After reaching your desired results, Absolute Dental can help you maintain your newly aligned smile with retainers. Ask us about the types of retainers we offer and what option is best for your needs.

Is Orthodontic Care Expensive?
Orthodontic care is an investment in your smile, confidence, and future dental health, and Absolute Dental wants to make that possible for every patient. That’s why we offer special discounts and payment plans for patients seeking orthodontic care.
Do Braces Hurt?
You may experience temporary pressure or discomfort after adjustments to your braces. However, this usually goes away after a day or two. If you have ongoing irritation or pain, let your orthodontist know right away.
How Often Will I Have Appointments?
How often you see your orthodontist will depend on your type of braces, the severity of your misalignment, and whether you have other dental conditions that need treatment. It’s important to stick to your care schedule to stay on top of your treatment progress.
