What Happens During A Child Teeth Cleaning?
A pediatric teeth cleaning is essential to your child’s dental health and development. Here’s what you can expect during the procedure:
Dental X-Rays
Once your child is comfortable, we’ll ask them to bite down on a special tray. They will need to hold it there for a few seconds while the dental assistant takes the X-ray. This process is repeated a few times to get every section of your child’s mouth.
Scaling
A dental hygienist will then use dental instruments called scalers toremove plaque and tartar from your child’s teeth and below the gum line. During this part of the cleaning, your child may hear a tapping or scraping sound but will not experience any pain.
Polishing
After the plaque is removed, the hygienist will use a special toothbrush and gritty toothpaste to polish and brighten your child’s smile. This step involves an electric whirring sound as the soft rubber tip rotates around each tooth.
Floss and Rinse
