The most common method to whiten teeth is professional bleaching. Our team of dental professionals will evaluate your case, determine if this is a suitable treatment for you, and oversee the procedure every step of the way:

  • Your teeth are cleaned to remove any residue that could lead to uneven results.
  • A rubber shield or gel is placed on your gums to protect them from the whitening product.
  • A whitening product is applied to the teeth using a specially-made tray that fits like a mouthguard. The whitening product typically contains hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide as the active ingredient. The whitening product penetrates the enamel and initiates the oxidation process that is responsible for dissolving stains and discoloration on the teeth. 
  • The gel is removed. Your dentist will then compare your pre-treatment and post-treatment shades. Some patients see improvement of up to 8 shades in a single session. 

From start to finish, treatment typically takes between 60 minutes to two hours, depending on the whitening procedure being conducted, the desired results, and any unique circumstances.
