Lost a Separator in Reno | Orthodontic Emergencies
The stress and discomfort of a lost separator in Reno can be immense. It’s always difficult when something is happening with your body or teeth that you’re not sure of. However, a lost separator is a common issue and not a major problem.
If your braces spacer fell out in Reno, Absolute Dental can help. Our commitment to providing effective and compassionate care is unmatched, and our Reno office is equipped to handle this, and all other orthodontic emergencies.
Whether your orthodontic spacer fell out in Reno, you need emergency braces repair, or you’re having a braces emergency, Absolute Dental can handle all Reno orthodontic emergencies.
If your orthodontic separator or spacer has fallen out, here’s what to do:
Step 1: Don’t Panic
A separator (or spacer) is a small rubber band used to create space between teeth before braces are placed. Its falling out can be a sign that it has already done its job.
Step 2: Assess the Situation
Check if there is any severe pain or discomfort. If there is, you should contact our office immediately.
Step 3: Try To Reinsert It (With Caution)
Don’t try to put the spacer back in yourself unless you are certain of where it fits and how, and have been instructed previously by an orthodontist. You can use two pieces of floss as a method to reinsert the spacer.
Step 4: Contact Our Office
The most important step is to contact our friendly team to schedule an appointment. On the phone, we can give you the next steps and let you know whether you need to come in right away or if it can wait for your scheduled appointment.
The possibility of a sore mouth or minor discomfort is possible with an orthodontic lost separator in Reno NV, and should this happen, non-aspirin pain relievers, like acetaminophen or ibuprofen, can help manage it.
Regular Price: $179
With this offer, there’s no excuse not to get back on track! Schedule a complete exam and x-rays for only $39 and ensure you have a beautiful healthy smile.

Common Orthodontic Emergencies
Absolute Dental is a comprehensive emergency care provider.
We can treat:
Lost separators: To reiterate, this is a common issue and our office can easily replace the lost separator or determine if it is no longer needed.
General soreness: Soreness is normal for a few days after adjustments or first getting braces. Eat a soft food diet, use warm salt water rinses, and take over-the-counter pain relievers to help with the discomfort.
Loose wires: A loose wire can cause irritation in the mouth. Try using a pencil eraser to gently push the wire back into place. If this isn’t possible, use a small piece of orthodontic wax to cover the sharp end.
Loose brackets: A loose braces bracket is a more urgent problem that requires immediate attention. If you have a loose bracket, contact the office as soon as possible. Leave the bracket in place and use wax to keep it from moving or causing irritation.
Poking wires: A wire that has shifted and is poking the cheek or gums can cause discomfort and concern. Again, you can use a pencil eraser to carefully push the wire away from the irritated area, and if this doesn’t work, cover it with wax. Schedule an appointment for repair ASAP.
Loose appliance: If your headgear, retainer, or other appliance becomes loose or bent, do not force them back into place. If this happens, contact the office immediately for a repair appointment.

A diagnosis: The orthodontist will quickly assess the problem.
A temporary or permanent fix: Depending on the situation, your orthodontist will provide a temporary fix (like clipping a wire), or a permanent repair (like replacing a bracket or separator).
Your next steps: The orthodontist will also provide clear instructions for home care and discuss the next step in the treatment plan.
No, a lost separator is generally not considered an orthodontic emergency. In some cases, it means your braces are working exactly as designed. If you’ve lost a separator, give us a call to find out if a replacement is needed.
If a bracket becomes loose when eating, don’t try to pull it off. Put some dental wax on the bracket to relieve any pain, and contact us right away. Try to avoid any sticky foods like gum or hard foods, such as hard candies.
No, you should not try to cut a braces wire by yourself. You should use a pencil eraser to push the wire back in place, if possible, use dental wax to cover any sharp ends, and schedule an appointment as soon as possible.
