Pediatric Braces In Henderson
As a parent, you want to help ensure your child has access to the best and affordable dental care in Henderson. As they grow, it is not uncommon for children to require pediatric braces to help them develop a gorgeous and beautiful smile. At Absolute Dental, we offer affordableHenderson pediatric dentistry services and braces.
Most kids will choose between two types of braces: traditional metal braces and ceramic braces. Traditional metal braces feature metal wires, brackets, and rubber bands. Most kids can choose the color of the rubber bands to personalize their braces. They may also consider ceramic braces with ceramic brackets instead of metal ones to make the brackets less noticeable.
The second type of pediatric braces kids can choose is clear plastic braces like Invisalign. These braces are clear plastic aligners that fit over the teeth. Every few weeks, a new set of aligners replaces the old ones. Kids like aligner braces because they allow them to eat and drink their favorite foods. However, kids must be committed to wearing the aligners constantly when not eating or drinking.
Orthodontic Evaluation And Treatment Planning
The first step in deciding if your child needs braces is an orthodontic evaluation. This evaluation can occur at any age, from around 7 to older. OurHenderson dentist and orthodontist will look for gaps between teeth, crooked teeth, and underbites and overbites.
If your child could benefit from braces, a treatment plan is created. The treatment plan outlines all the procedures needed before getting braces, routine visits to monitor progress, and any other special equipment needed, like a retainer.

Benefits Of Early Orthodontic Intervention
Some of the benefits of early orthodontic intervention are:
Helps ensure proper teeth and mouth development: Braces can help improve speech, teeth alignment, and jaw alignment
Helps prevent future dental problems: Early intervention can help identify and address potential future dental problems before they become an issue, such as avoiding misaligned and crooked teeth.
Improves chewing and speech: Jaw problems and misaligned and crooked teeth can cause chewing problems and speech issues for children. By getting kid’s braces earlier, these issues can be avoided.
Helps boost your child’s self-esteem: When kids feel good about their smiles, they are not afraid to show it. They are also more self-confident and experience a boost in their self-esteem.

Orthodontic Treatment Process
The orthodontic treatment process generally is as follows:
Initial consultation: The first consultation occurs when your child is around 7. However, they won’t get braces until after their 12-year molars start coming in. During this time, other treatments are used to help prepare them for braces.
Phase one orthodontics: This is the first phase for kids 7 to around 10 to address specific problems. Your child may need to wear an orthodontic device to help develop their teeth and jaw.
Phase two orthodontics: This second phase is when your child will get their braces. Before installation, their teeth are cleaned, and any overcrowding issues are addressed.
Braces installed: The braces are installed, or the orthodontist takes impressions of your child’s teeth to order their clear aligners
Orthodontic Maintenance And Care
Children’s dental orthodontics includes regular visits with your child’s orthodontist at set intervals to monitor treatment progress and make adjustments as needed. For example, braces may need to be tightened. Your child will also need to keep up with regular care, such as brushing and flossing, bi-annual cleanings, and regular dental visits to check for cavities.

The orthodontist monitors your child’s progress and adjusts the treatment plan based on this progress. Some kids may require slightly longer treatment, while others may finish sooner.
Potential Risks And Complications
It is important to understand the potential risks and complications from braces, which could include:
Cavities: If your child is not brushing and flossing, it can lead to dental decay and cavities
Gum disease: Gum disease can develop from infrequent brushing and flossing
Pain and soreness: Minor pain and soreness are not uncommon when first getting braces and whenever they are tightened. Even with clear aligners, there can be some minor discomfort.
Orthodontic Retention Phase
After your kid’s braces are removed or they complete their final set of aligners, they will enter the children’s dental orthodontic retention phase. This phase is where retainers or other equipment are used to help ensure the teeth remain in their current positions and do not become misaligned or move back into their initial positions.

It depends on what issues need to be corrected with orthodontic treatment. Braces can remain on anywhere from one year to three years, sometimes longer.
Traditional metal braces are permanently installed and adjusted throughout treatment. Clear aligners are removable for eating and drinking but must be worn at all other times. Aligners are replaced with a new set every few weeks as they slowly move and straighten teeth.
