Kids’ Tooth Extractions in North Las Vegas

While kids’ tooth extractions are relatively unlikely, in some cases, the best course of action for overall oral health is to remove a tooth. Injuries, infections, gum disease, and severe tooth decay can all create situations where extraction may be necessary. Waiting to deal with the problem is not a solution.

For both parents and children, hearing a tooth extraction may be required can be a scary or stressful experience. However, Absolute Dental works hard to ensure, safe, routine extractions for everyone who walks through our doors, including children.

We are experts in child-friendly care and take every measure possible to ensure children and their parents have an anxiety-free experience. This includes special pediatric training for our staff, robust and age-appropriate communication, and a number of sedation options.

For children’s tooth extraction, think Absolute Dental in North Las Vegas. We offer several locations across the city and state to serve you and your family and happily accept emergency appointments.

Contact Absolute Dental today for routine issues, like sensitive teeth, or for emergency children’s tooth extraction.

Why Absolute Dental’s Approach Works

Absolute Dental’s approach to pediatric dentistry works because of our focus on child-friendly care with pediatric-trained professionals.

We understand that the dentist can be a scary or worrisome experience for anyone, especially children, so we take every precaution available to reduce worry, anxiety, and fear for all members of your family. Our goal is to ensure you and your family have the best experience possible.

Our techniques include thorough explanation of issues and dental techniques, child-friendly language and explanations, special training on pediatric dentistry and pediatric issues, and much more. Perhaps most importantly, we understand that both parents and children need reassurance, patience, and grace.

Although we try to minimize time in the dental chair for children, we’ll never rush your family through appointments. We also offer multiple locations at convenient sites across Las Vegas to serve you, and we offer same-day appointments for emergencies, including issues that may lead to a child’s tooth extraction.

How Our Extraction Process Works

Our rule at Absolute Dental is customized treatment for each of our patients. All those who walk into our office are never a number to us, but a unique individual with unique needs. We do not provide one-size-fits-all treatments.

When you make an appointment with Absolute Dental for a potential tooth extraction for your child, we first provide a thorough examination of their entire dental health, including teeth, gums, palate, etc. In most cases, we’ll also take images, such as X-rays, to understand what is happening in places the naked eye can’t see.

Following the initial examination, we will provide an explanation of problems and treatment recommendations. We want to ensure you and your children have ample opportunity to speak with the dentist, ask questions, and inquire about costs before treatment begins.

Once a course of action is decided, treatment can begin. In the case of a pediatric tooth extraction, local anesthetic will be administered, and, if selected, sedation will occur. The tooth or teeth will then be removed.

After the procedure, the dental team will provide you and your loved ones with aftercare instructions. These will likely include a limited diet for the first few weeks after extraction, pain medication, and instructions for any issues to watch out for. You’ll also receive a follow up appointment, if necessary.

At Absolute Dental, we pride ourselves on taking patient care seriously, especially when it comes to comprehensive care. As your child grows, their dental and oral health needs will likely change as well.

All under the same roof, we offer emergency services, family dentistry, orthodontics, and periodontistry, so every aspect of your children’s oral health is covered without visits to multiple offices. From toddler teething to dentures for the elderly, Absolute Dental can treat you with the same friendly doctors.

At all of our Las Vegas offices, we offer emergency care for injury and illness. For severe cases, we are generally able to get your children to see a dentist on the same day. In the case of serious injuries, such as car or sports accidents, where a tooth has been knocked out, head to the office immediately, no need to wait for an appointment.

When you do need an appointment, we offer flexible scheduling. We are always accepting new patients, and you may conveniently make an appointment online with our easy-to-use online scheduler, or call and one of our staff members can make one for you over the phone.

We also accept almost all major forms of insurance and are happy to help you understand your coverage and expected costs. We aim to provide seamless communication between your family, our office, and the insurance companies.

For those without insurance or with limited ability to pay, we offer payment plans and financing. We also recommend you investigate our Smile Saver program, which can save families on all kinds of dental expenses.

Why Kids May Need a Tooth Extraction

Children’s tooth extractions may be necessary for a variety of reasons, including the following:

Trauma or Injury

Likely the most common cause of children’s tooth extraction is injury or trauma. In children, injuries often happen due to sports or other traumatic events, like car accidents.

While we always try to save the natural tooth if we are able, sometimes the degree of injury is too great and teeth must be removed. Although it is impossible to prevent all childhood dental injuries, encouraging your children to wear a mouth guard during sports can help prevent many.

Severe Tooth Decay

In some cases of severe tooth decay, teeth may need to be removed. This happens only when decay is extremely severe and the natural tooth is unable to be saved.

The best way to prevent tooth decay is to follow good oral hygiene by brushing twice per day, flossing in the evening before bed, and visiting the dentist twice per year for a checkup and cleaning. Fluoride treatments also particularly benefit children, especially if your drinking water is not fluoridated.

Gum Disease

Although less common in children than adults, gum disease can be a cause of tooth extraction. Gum disease is caused by bacteria invading the space between the teeth and gums and is a serious problem.

Early-stage gum disease can often be reversed with good oral hygiene habits, but late-stage gum disease can only be managed. Signs include bleeding gums, painful or discolored gums, bad breath that doesn’t improve with brushing, and pus around the teeth.

What Should Parents Expect After a Tooth Extraction?

After a tooth extraction, you will receive specific instructions from your dentist on how to care for the wound for several days following the procedure.

Care will include a specific diet to eat for the first two weeks, with the first few days after the procedure being the most restrictive. Soft foods, such as yogurt and mashed potatoes, will be required for up to four days after the extraction, then slightly harder foods, such as well-cooked vegetables, are acceptable. Most people are able to resume eating normally two weeks after the procedure.

You will also receive aftercare instructions that include prescription or over-the-counter pain medication, and information on how to recognize signs of trouble or distress that warrant a trip back to the office.

Our Pediatric Tooth Extraction Services

Absolute Dental offers both planned and emergency pediatric dentistry services, including tooth extractions.

Planned extractions may follow a dental inspection or imaging, such as an X-ray. Extractions can also be an important part of healthy orthodontics.

When an emergency arises, Absolute Dental is here for you and your family. If an accident does occur, call to speak to a staff member to see if your child should be evaluated immediately, or a same-day appointment may be appropriate.

We Accept Most Dental Insurance

Absolute Dental is a preferred provider for most insurances, unions, and hotels that include: MGM-MIRAGE, Met-Life, Aetna, Diversified, Delta, Health Plan of Nevada (HPN), Humana, Guardian, Ameritas, United Concordia, Venetian, Caesars Palace, Harrah’s, Station Casinos, and many more…

Yes, but what they are allowed to eat and drink will be restricted. Particularly, for the first few days after extraction, avoid foods harder than mashed potatoes, excessive sugar, and extremely hot or cold liquids and foods.

If your child needs a tooth extraction and they don’t get it, consequences can be severe, up to and including death. Tooth infections are to be taken seriously.

Recovery happens in stages, with the first few days after the procedure generally being the most severe. Most people feel completely fine within two weeks.
