Habits, such as thumb sucking or pacifier use during childhood, also may impact teeth alignment.
Early intervention in the teenage years helps correct jaw growth, prevents future dental issues, and enhances confidence.
While many people think braces are just for appearance, they would be incorrect. Misaligned teeth, especially when they are severe, can cause a whole host of health issues. These issues include serious conditions, like cavities and gum disease.
Properly aligned teeth are easier to clean and take care of, and can improve oral health overall. Early orthodontic screenings around age 7 to 9 are important for ideal results.

What Are the Different Types of Teen Braces Available in Las Vegas?
From clear braces, such as Invisalign, to ceramic braces, to traditional metal braces for teens in Las Vegas, Absolute Dental can offer you and your family many options to fit any lifestyle and budget.
Traditional metal braces: Traditional metal braces are now smaller, more comfortable, and come with customizable colors. Metal braces are still the most effective option for complex cases.
Ceramic or clear braces:This type of braces is similar to traditional metal braces, but are less visible. They’re helpful for teens concerned about aesthetics, and have a similar effectiveness to traditional metal braces.
Self-ligating braces:Self-ligating braces for Las Vegas teens use clips to hold the wire to the teeth, potentially causing less friction, while offering fewer office visits and faster treatment.
Invisalign Teen: These invisible braces for teens in Las Vegas come as removable trays. They’re ideal for active teens, with compliance indicators to monitor wear. These, however, can’t handle complex cases.
Lingual braces: These braces sit behind the teeth. They’re completely invisible, but are only suited for certain bite and teeth issues.
When Should My Teen Start Orthodontic Treatment?
When it comes to braces, timing matters. The first comprehensive orthodontic screening is recommended by age 7 to catch developmental issues early. Your child may not need treatment at this time, but early evaluation helps identify growth issues and bad habits that, if caught early, might save time, money, and discomfort a few years down the road.
Early intervention can also simplify later treatment, reduce treatment time, and address problems before permanent teeth fully develop.
Most teens are ready for braces once all permanent teeth erupt, around ages 11 to 14. However, treatment timing varies based on individual development.
The bottom line? You shouldn’t wait for a teen braces consultation in Las Vegas. The best part? You can schedule a free consultation for personalized assessment and treatment planning right here at Absolute Dental.
How Do Braces Work? The Treatment Process
While every patient is different, and we never treat any two cases the same, there is a typical process patients will go through when getting braces for the first time:
1. Initial consultation: First, we’ll perform a thorough exam. We’ll make X-rays, take photographs, and perform digital scans.
2. Treatment planning: After this planning, we can come up with a custom treatment plan based on the severity of misalignment and your teen’s jaw structure. Each treatment plan is tailored to the individual.
3. Installation: Once a plan has been made, we can begin installation. This may be slightly different based on what type of braces are decided between you, your teen, and their orthodontic team:
Traditional braces: With traditional braces, brackets are bonded to the teeth, then connected with archwires. These wires will be periodically adjusted.
Invisalign: These clear braces for teens in Las Vegas consist of a series of custom trays worn 20 to 22 hours daily.
Other appliances: Depending on your teen’s bite and jaw structure, they may need expanders or retainers at this stage.
4. Adjustments: Once their braces are installed, they’ll come back for regular visits, likely every six to eight weeks. At these visits we may make wire changes, tighten the braces, or make other appliance adjustments.
5. Retainers: Once their treatment is complete, we’ll remove the appliances and they’ll get to take their first look at their new smile. We’ll also make and give them post-treatment retainers. These are worn at night to maintain their results and prevent relapse.
Overall, braces treatment generally takes about half a year to 30 months, depending on case complexity.

There are numerous benefits to braces for teens, above and beyond the obvious appearance improvements:
Braces can:
Achieve a straight, confident smile that lasts a lifetime.
Improve oral health by making cleaning easier, reducing decay, and gum disease risk.
Correct bite issues for better chewing, speech, and jaw alignment.
Reduce long-term dental costs and avoid complex dental procedures later.
Boost self-confidence and social confidence during formative years.
Modern options, like Invisalign and self-ligating braces, minimize discomfort and reduce treatment time.
Care and Maintenance During Treatment
During treatment, their oral health routine should remain relatively similar to their normal routine, with some possible extra steps or considerations. They should:
Continue regular brushing and flossing. Brush at least twice per day, and floss in the evening. They may need special tools or flossers recommended for braces or aligners. Their dentist can suggest the best tools for you.
Avoid sugary, sticky, or hard foods to prevent damage or staining.
If they wear aligners, keep them clean. They should always remove them before eating or drinking anything besides water.
Wear their appliances as prescribed. Built-in compliance indicators will help guide success.
Attend all scheduled adjustments and checkups.
Use orthodontic wax to reduce irritation from brackets or wires, if needed.
Care for crooked teeth braces for teens in Las Vegas doesn’t have to be a challenge. Follow these simple tips and their smile should be straight and healthy in no time.

While there may be some discomfort associated with braces, they’re not particularly painful. You may feel sore for a few days after the braces are installed or your wires are tightened. This discomfort is temporary.
Most teens wear braces for six to 30 months, depending on the severity of their case. After treatment, they’ll periodically have to wear a retainer as well.
Depending on the type of braces, yes. Those with clear trays can eat as normal, but those with traditional metal braces should avoid sticky food like chewing gum, as well as hard foods that can break the wires or brackets.
Once your braces are installed or you receive your trays, in general, you’ll visit the orthodontist once every six to eight weeks or so for tightenings, fittings, and checkups.
Invisalign are a series of clear trays that align the teeth. They can be taken out to eat or for other special occasions. Traditional braces are not removed until the end of treatment.
Orthodontic evaluation for children should start about 7 years old to identify any problems early. Most teens need treatment approximately at ages 11 to 14, once permanent teeth have fully filled in.
