For many years, metal dentistry has been the standard method of repairing and re-aligning teeth. However, there is a modern, and potentially healthier, alternative: metal-free dentistry.
In the United States, there is a growing demand for metal-free options due to appearance and health concerns, including among North Las Vegas residents. At Absolute Dental, we long ago responded to this demand and are pleased to offer you top-quality metal-free dentistry in the area for you and your whole family.
Below, we’ll discuss everything you could want to know about metal-free fillings, metal-free crowns, and any other questions you may have for a metal-free dentist.

Why Choose Metal-Free Dentistry Over Traditional Options?
Metal-free dentistry is a type of dentistry that uses materials like resin, ceramics, or porcelain instead of metals such as silver, mercury, gold, or a combination. Metal-free dentistry can be used for almost any application where metal could have previously been used, such as fillings, crowns and bridges.
Many people like metal-free dentistry for its aesthetic perks. Metal-free dental bridges, dental crowns and tooth fillings match the color of your natural teeth for a natural and beautiful smile.
There may be health benefits as well. Metal-free fillings and other apparatuses contain no mercury, which many people disfavor. They are also less prone to cause allergic reactions to those who may have allergies to metals. Overall, metal-free dentistry is a safe alternative for sensitive patients.
Metal-free dentistry can also offer some functional benefits as well. For example, composite fillings strongly bond to teeth to prevent further damage in a way metal fillings do not. Metal-free restorations last for years with proper care.
Are Metal-Free Crowns as Strong as Traditional Metal Crowns?
Yes. In some cases, they are even stronger. There are a number of different types of materials metal-free crowns and other restorations can be made from. Each has different strengths, such as their ability to mimic natural teeth and durability.

Are Metal-Free Dental Restorations More Expensive?
In general, metal-free dental restorations and other mercury-free dentistry is slightly more expensive than traditional metal dentistry, as these techniques use more advanced materials, and can take more time to craft. However, this cost is often covered by insurance companies, and we offer payment plans and our Smile Saver program for those without insurance.
Can I Replace My Old Metal Fillings With Metal-Free Options?
Yes, replacement is possible. In many cases this is medically desirable, but it can be done for aesthetic reasons as well. Talk to a dentist about further options.
Metal-Free Dental Solutions
At Absolute Dental, we offer a number of different metal-free dental solutions to choose from. Nearly all of our procedures can be performed metal free.
For example:
Metal-Free Fillings
Metal-free fillings can replace the old silver fillings in your teeth. Composite resin, made of plastic and glass, match your natural teeth color, and are much less noticeable than metal fillings.
Another benefit is these fillings are mercury free. Although considered safe by all of the regulatory agencies in the U.S., some would rather not have this potential toxin in their bodies. In addition, with metal-free fillings, dental staff have to remove less tooth material to place these kinds of fillings because of their bonding properties. In fact, this bonding can even strengthen teeth.
Metal-Free Crowns Dentistry
Dental crowns are strong caps for cracked or chipped teeth. Metal-free crowns, made of zirconia or porcelain, offer strength and a natural look in comparison to metal crowns, often made with silver or gold.
Metal-free crowns are more resistant to temperature sensitivity, and are appealing for use in both the front and back teeth.
Types of dental crowns and cost vary, and metal-free crowns are often slightly more expensive, but this expense is offset by their longevity and appearance.
Metal-Free Bridges
Metal-free bridges work exactly the same as traditional bridges, but are far less noticeable and match the color of your existing teeth. Dental bridges are necessary when there are missing teeth between healthy teeth. Dental bridges “bridge” the gap between them and help keep your other teeth from moving, and help maintain the shape of your face.
Metal-free bridges use ceramics or zirconia to replace these missing teeth, instead of metal. Like all of our other metal-free procedures, our bridges are durable and blend in with your natural smile, making them less noticeable than traditional methods.
Dental Implants Without Metal
Traditional dental implants are made with titanium. In this process, a titanium rod is implanted in the jaw to act as a foundation for new teeth. Metal-free implants follow the same process but use zirconia, a type of very hard stone, almost like a diamond, in place of the titanium.
Some people are sensitive to metals touching their body, and zirconia implants are perfect for those with metal sensitivity. They have a higher “biocompatibility” rating than traditional implants, while retaining comparable levels of durability.

Is Metal-Free Dentistry Safe for Everyone?
Yes! Metal-free dentistry is among the safest types of dentistry practiced today. It is great for people who may have reactions to other materials, those who do not want mercury in their fillings, and those who prefer the look of metal-free options.
Is Metal-Free Dentistry Good for Allergy Sufferers?
Yes! Metal-free dentistry is great for those who have sensitivity to allergens, and is the preferred choice for those who have allergic reactions to the metals in traditional fillings. Hypoallergenic materials like composite resin and porcelain are great for those who react to other dental materials, and are considered much less reactive overall.
Is Metal-Free Dentistry Okay for Pregnant Women?
Yes! Metal-free options are completely safe for those who are pregnant, or who may become pregnant. This type of dental work has been shown to be safe for both the mother and fetus, and is endorsed by major regulatory agencies in the United States and Europe.
These types of fillings and dental work may even be slightly safer than traditional fillings as they lack mercury, although traditional fillings and dental work is considered safe by every major regulatory body.
In short, dentistry options without metal are perfectly safe for pregnant women.
Is Metal-Free Dentistry for Those With Aesthetic Concerns?
